When All The Noise Drowns Out the Voice of God

Do you ever feel like there are so many distractions you can’t stay focused on one thing?

Maybe you hop on your computer to answer a few emails only to find yourself scrolling through Facebook and then suddenly 30 minutes are gone.  And the posts are all filled with decisive opinions, hurtful words, name calling because you’re not on their side.

So many voices.  So many opinions.  So many people who know they’ve got it right.

I found myself there a few weeks ago.  I had to do a bit of a withdraw from social media.   Here’s the thing, social media is a huge part of my business.  But there were so many distractions and voices, I had found that they had all drowned out the voice of God.

It’s not just with social media though.  You can find it in your day to day, “real world” life.  You ask for someone’s opinion.  You ask for help.  You find you’ve asked several different family members and friends all about the same topic and everyone has different opinions on what you should be doing.

Then there’s you.  The thoughts that fill your head. Worry. Pressure. To-do lists.  These produce so many feelings within yourself.  Guilt, confusion, fear, doubt and constant second guessing yourself.

With all of these distractions it’s no wonder you don’t know what to do, where to go or how to think.  You may be so overwhelmed you just want to quit.  To give up.  To shut down.  Have you ever thought that maybe, perhaps…  it’s possible that

All these distractions are drowning out the voice of God.

And that’s what has gotten you to the point of feeling like giving up?

If this you.  I want to encourage you to take a few minutes (even five minutes daily, although more would be better),  to read one scripture.  To focus in on that scripture.  Drop all other thoughts, worries, feelings, anxieties and pressure.  Just think on that one short scripture and and allow your mind to become so consumed by it that it overflows down into your heart.    Into your spirit.  Talk to the Lord, share what’s on your heart. But the goal is to focus in on HIM not your problems and the distractions.  Spend some time with your creator, your heavenly Father.

In the midst of the chaos and all the noise, if you take a few minutes to meditate on the Word of God.  To spend precious moments with Him.  Put aside all the noise.  It will be quiet enough to hear His voice speak to you.  You can hear His soft loving words as they are whispered gently in your ear.   And you can feel the calm that only He offers in the midst of the chaos.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed or uncertain.  You aren’t able to focus because you see so many shiny squirrels and they’re all at a rave– and you’re trying to chase them all.  I lovingly urge you.. Take a moment to Be still and know that He is God.

In that stillness, breathe in His goodness.  Enjoy the quiet calm and peace with Him.   Even if for just a moment.

In the midst of today’s chaos, it’s the least you can do for yourself.. and your loved ones.

Most importantly, I want to remind you how much your Heavenly Father appreciates the time you spend with Him.  He takes great pleasure in you making Him a priority.  You sitting down with Him.  Loving on Him and spending quality time together.
